Strength-In an environment in which the freeze/thaw cycles are prominent, and highly expansive clay is around every corner, the strength of a concrete pool is unsurpassed.  Fibreglass pools require that a larger hole than the actual pool shell be excavated, then backfilled around, this can cause costly settlement issues only a couple of years down the road.  Bowed walls, cracking/settling decks, and damaged plumbing are just a few results of this phenomenon.  What they don't tell you is the lifetime warranty on the pool shell does not cover any of these.  While vinyl lined pools are certainly a better alternative, they rely completely on proper installation.  There are only a few local companies that do not cut corners in order to offer a lower price to the consumer, if not backfilled and compacted properly the same issues with deck settlement and cracking can occur, as well as damage to the plumbing system.  Concrete pools, in general, are not over excavated, they are dug to the exact dimensions, and the concrete is sprayed directly against the soil to make a seamless transition between the earth and concrete, and avoid settlement of backfill problems.  Their overall strength against soil movement is unparalleled.

Longevity- If a quality product that lasts decades is what you want, than concrete is the only alternative.  If you are only planning on living in your residence for a few years, and aren't concerned about the product lasting long-term, than fiberglass or vinyl is a viable alternative. 

Customization-  You are limited to only the locations of steps, tan shelves, benches, etc. that a particular pool shell, or vinyl kit has to offer from the factory.  A concrete pool offers an infinite number of options that can be customized to the individual users preference.
